October 8th, 2009 the Rolla Lions Club kicked off a special fundraising event to benefit sight and hearing in the area. Since 1999 the Club has provided for 1,114 eye examinations and corrective eyewear as required, obtained approximately 36,000 used eye glasses for Missouri Lions Eye Research, provided hearing tests and corrective hearing aids as required to hundreds of people and has sent 3-5 patients per year to Mid South Lions Sight & Hearing Service, all at no cost to the recipient.

This fundraiser will be to benefit Mid South Lions Sight & Hearing, which has a branch in Rolla, to assist the needy of our area with world class state of the art surgery and medical procedures for both sight and hearing. The procedures that have been provided to area citizens would have cost a small fortune if it were not for the Rolla Lions Club and Mid South Lions Sight and Hearing. However through the grace of God and the generosity of the community it did not cost the patients one cent.

The Club will be raffling off a 7 or 8 day Carnival Cruise Line Caribbean or Alaskan cruise for two with round trip airfare valued at $6,000.00. The trip will be good for one year after the drawing, with a variety of sailing dates, ships and departures. Tickets will be available for a $20.00 donation per ticket with the drawing to be held on December 11, 2009 during the special Club Trivia night held at the den for the same cause, need not be present to win. A turkey shoot/fish fry and a spaghetti/wine dinner will also be held at a later date. Cruise tickets may be obtained from any Rolla Lions Club member or by calling the following committee members:
